Question
Hello, can you help me?
I talked to a christian about some problems I have like questioning if I'm
really saved and he said that I have to seek God and when God
answers then I will really know that I am saved. I have already tried to seek
God in the past and always got discouraged and depressed cause it
didn't bear any fruits. Nothing happened and I didn't even know how to "seek
God" and I wrote him this and he replied this below. This sounds like
even if one wants to get saved and prays a prayer then God is not obligated to
really answer it. This is scary. I don't know what to think about this.
If God can decline salvation requests then how can one have assurance at all?
"my problem is not to get discouraged and simply give up because i quickly
become frustrated and discouraged."
Answer
Opinions, including mine, don’t count.
What does the Bible say about obtaining salvation and receiving eternal life?
It says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved”. (Acts 16:31) But how do we believe on Jesus Christ? The Bible says, “If we choose to confess that he is the absolute highest authority (Lord) over everything that exists, including us, and secondly, choose to believe that God raised him from the dead, we shall be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Rick, I cannot find the scripture that says pray, while patiently waiting on God, pleading the blood, and he will save us in his perfect time. However, the Bible does say, “Ask, and it shall be given, seek and you will find, knock, and the door will open”. (Matthew 7:7, Luke 11:9), but once he opens the door, we must choose to walk through that door. The Bible says the way to walk through the door to eternal life is simply to choose to believe in Jesus. If you have chosen to believe in him as your savior, then you are saved? It’s that simple.
Now, after believing, accept what the Bible says about you. It says, “You have the righteousness of God”. (Romans 3:22) It says, “You are a new creature” (2 Corinthians 5:17) but you cannot experience this change with your 5 senses, because these changes have taken place in your spirit. Your spirit is instantly changed when you believe, but your mind is not automatically changed overnight. That takes time. It is still operating through fear and unbelief. You must allow this new you, in spirit, to renew your old ways of thinking, by mediating on the word of God. (Ephesians 5:26) As you do that, the new you in spirit takes over the old you in your mind. More and more, you begin to see things from a very different perspective. You begin to sense God’s presence in more and more situations. An entire world of understanding will be yours. This will chase away doubts and fears, as you become more and more able to step out in faith instead of fear and unbelief. But this will only happen if you spend time mediating on the word of God, not just reading it. A good way to study the bible is to go to the blue letter bible online and type in a word like “believe” or "faith" or "Love" or any key word on a subject you want to know more about. Then read the scriptures that come up. Print them out and mediate on them. Forget about getting answers from others. Seek the answers for yourself in the word of God.
